France/ This Vendée commune calls on an agricultural college to better manage its trees
The commune of Mouilleron-le-Captif is renewing its partnership with the Lycée Nature to catalogue and better manage its plant heritage.
At the last Mouilleron-le-Captif town council meeting, Carole Bouchet, elected representative for green spaces and sustainable resource management, proposed the renewal of the commune's partnership with the Lycée Nature in La Roche-sur-Yon. She recalled that an initial agreement had been signed three years ago to list over 600 species of local flora and fauna, according to the commune's natural environments. A diversity atlas was returned in December (see our article of January 16). Now that the agreement has come to an end, the local councillor has presented a new proposal, this time focusing on trees, involving six first-year students from the agricultural BTS classes in nature management and protection throughout their two years of study.
Inventorying trees
The new project would involve "making an inventory of priority areas for environmental conservation and potential compensation zones, including breaks in ecological continuity, known as the blue and green webs; orienting and making management proposals to establish a first draft of a tree charter ".bauche de charte de l'arbre, avec l'objectif à long terme que tous les arbres de la commune soient classés; repérer les arbres exceptionnels pour le concours national dans le cadre du label Villes et Villages Fleuris; construire un argumentaire pour les riverains, notamment sur la gestion des arbres, l'importance des haies et les choix de gestion différenciée. "The signing of this new agreement, extending the partnership launched three years ago, was approved by the elected representatives.
