Benin/Redynamization of local livestock farming: 1,000 small breeders receive poultry and poultry feed kits
The Projet d'Urgence de Renforcement de la Résilience des Acteurs du Secteur Agricole (PUR-ZEDAGA) has taken an important step towards revitalizing local livestock farming. On Monday April 14, 2025 in Zè, PUR-ZEDAGA officials handed over 1,000 poultry kits and poultry feed to a number of small-scale breeders.
Since Monday April 14, 2025, a thousand small-scale livestock farmers have been rejoicing thanks to the PUR ZEDAGA project. Each of them has received a kit comprising poultry and poultry feed, designed to give them an opportunity to get their income-generating activity back on a firmer footing in the short term.
On behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the Secretary General of the said Ministry, Madame Françoise ASSOGBA KOMLAN, stressed that that this action marks a decisive step in the Government's commitment to sustainable development and the empowerment of women and young people in rural communities.
For Mr Eugène DJOSSOU, PUR-ZEDAGA Project Coordinator, "the distribution of these kits is part of a national strategy to revitalize local livestock farming. It also accompanies the reform banning the import of frozen meat of dubious quality".
"Antoine HOUESSOU, First Deputy Mayor of the commune of Zè, added: "This is a major action that will help to strengthen the capacities of our farmers and breeders, while giving a boost to our local economy.
Mr. Damien HONFO, president of the farmers of the commune of Zè, welcomed the "timely support" and promised, on behalf of the beneficiaries, to make good use of the equipment received.
Designed to help small-scale producers affected by the recent vagaries of health crises, insecurity and economic volatility, this Beninese government project aims to strengthen the resilience of rural players by offering them concrete means of recovery.
Small-scale livestock farmers in other localities will also benefit from the project's support.
