On Wednesday, the town of Guelmim hosted a workshop to discuss the "Green Revival" project to be implemented in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region by the German Agency for International Development Cooperation (GIZ) in Morocco.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bah indicated that the choice of Guelmim-Oued Noun as a pilot region for the implementation of the "Green Relaunch" project was the fruit of a fruitful partnership undertaken with German partners from2023, as part of the implementation of the "Decentralized Solutions for Regional Development" (SoDeR) and "Good Financial Governance" (BGF) projects.

These projects are aimed respectively at strengthening regional planning and development capabilities, and improving the financial governance of local authorities, he added.

The "Green Recovery" project aims to improve conditions for the deployment of renewable energies and the production of green hydrogen, and to support national public institutions as well as the private sector.It also aims to support national public institutions and the region in transferring innovative technologies to help achieve energy transition objectives.

With its strong potential in the field of renewable energies, the Guelmim-Oued Noun region aims to become a green energy hub through its Plan de développement régional Development Plan (PDR) 2022-2027, which has defined clear objectives enabling the region to benefit from major investments as part of the Morocco green hydrogen offer launched by the government, he noted.

In a statement to MAP, Ms. Lorenz Lorenz said that GIZ was proud to be working in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region as part of the bilateral cooperation between Germany and Morocco.The meeting was an opportunity for the agency to exchange views with stakeholders and partners on future activities in the region.

For her part, Lalla El Mazliki, Vice-President of the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council, pointed out that the preparatory workshop provided an opportunity to cover the components of the "Relaunch of the Moroccan Economy" project.the components of the "Green Revival" project, part of which will be implemented in partnership between GIZ, the region and other players in the sector.

This project, which is part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Energy Transition, aims to accelerate this transition, especially as the region has a strong potential for renewable energies.nergies, she told MAP, adding that the Regional Council is working within the framework of the PDR 2022-2027, which includes several axes and projects linked to renewable energies and green hydrogen.

Many investors have expressed their willingness to launch projects in this region, she said.

During the meeting, Clas Heising, head of the "Green Relaunch" project, presented the project's main objectives and axes, namely energy governance and planning, technological and professional capacity building, and green energy training.

He emphasized Guelmim-Oued Noun's strategic position as a national hub for the production and exploitation of green hydrogen, highlighting the major projects undertaken in the region with international companies in the fields of solar and wind energy.

Several speakers representing the sectors involved in the project underlined the importance of this initiative for the region, which has significant natural and human resources, particularly in the field of renewable energies and green hydrogen.

They also referred to the numerous strategic studies that form a solid basis for the project's success, such as the PDR and the region's Territorial Climate Plan (PCT), while calling for capacity building within the framework of the project.

For his part, Mbarek El Kedimi, technical advisor for the "SoDeR" project in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, gave a presentation on this project implemented by GIZ in three regions of the Kingdom: Guelmim-Oued Noun, Souss-Massa, and Marrakech-Safi, under the supervision of the Direction générale des collectivités territoriales.

He outlined the project's components, which include facilitating access to regional statistical data for planning purposes, building the capacity of regional agencies to implement the project, and supporting the implementation of the regional development plan.gional agencies to implement projects in these three regions, as well as promoting the civic participation of women and young people, particularly in regional planning and development.

He also gave an overview of the "BGF" project, which aims to improve the financial management of local authorities in terms of debt management, budget planning and execution, as well as that of the partner authorities' tax revenues.
