On display on the town hall forecourt until March 30, 2025, an exhibition traces the 40-year friendship between the towns of Cholet (Maine-et-Loire) and Oldenburg, Germany.

An exhibition is on display until March 30 on the forecourt of Cholet town hall to mark 40 years of twinning with Oldenburg. Residents can discover or rediscover the key moments in this friendship, which was sealed on March 3, 1985.

"Beyond institutional links

During an official ceremony at which the twinning charter was renewed, Mayor Gilles Bourdouleix evoked memories of particularly warm moments, citing the Olympiades and the Rencontres de l'amitié. His German counterpart, Jürgen Krogmann, who was in Cholet for a few days, praised the broad and deep-rooted nature of the twinning.

The charter is just a piece of paper. The cultural and sporting links between our two towns go beyond institutional ties," added the social-democrat mayor, hoping they would continue for the next 40 years.

In the coming months, Cholet and Oldenburg are planning a joint study of disability issues, said Gilles Bourdouleix. In the spring, a delegation, including elected representatives, is due to visit the Lower Saxon town to the west of Bremen. The Orchestre harmonique de Cholet (OHC) will perform there on Friday May 30.
