France/ Based in Saint-Barthélémy, the Gaia association pursues numerous projects in Togo
GAIA(Groupement d'actions et d'initiatives pour l'Afrique) held its general meeting on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the cultural center in Saint-Barthélémy (Morbihan). It was an opportunity to look back on the achievements of 2024, and to look ahead to the projects for 2025.
The Gaia association (Groupement d'actions et d'initiatives pour l'Afrique - Grouping of actions and initiatives for Africa) is demonstrating real dynamism, in view of the many missions it carries out in Togo. The year 2024 was punctuated by a number of aid initiatives, including a €2,000 donation to the Sokodé laboratory and the shipment of equipment donated by the Dr. G. G. Gaia's laboratory.rials donated by Dr Clotteau's laboratory in Baud to the Sokodé laboratory in the first quarter of 2024, as well as various financial aids for care and operations.
A sum of €4,000 enabled a borehole to be drilled in Sada, and another in Kodze (€6,468).
In the field of education, school supplies donated by the Saint-Barthélémy children's council were distributed to the Jubreda (Danyi) school.
Agriculture has also benefited from substantial aid, for the coffee agroforestry project, supported by the Brittany region (€19,934). Sponsorships are also improving the lives of schoolchildren (€1,200 in 2024).
Projects for 2025 focus on several areas: health, with urgent one-off medical care; continued support for the running of orphanages according to their needs; support for the running of the medical analysis laboratory in Sokodé. In the field of education, the collective continues to support teachers in Jubreda, sponsorships, the construction of latrines for a school in Sotouboua, and exchanges between Togolese and French students.
There are also numerous agricultural projects, with the continuation of the coffee agroforestry project, the extension of the nursery, the first planting sites, a training component (coffee growing and beekeeping) and the organization of two follow-up missions, in April and October 2025. A partnership project between Gaia and Amisep is currently under consideration.
The Board of Directors is made up of fifteen members, a third of whom are elected each year. Re-elected for 2025 are Thierry Anani, Rolande Pocard, Claude Allano, Maël Lorcy and Yvonick Lorcy. A new member is elected: André Texier.
