Togo/ Doufelgou 1 commune launches a census of its taxpayers
In Togo, the commune of Doufelgou 1 launched this week (March 3, 2025) a general census of taxpayers of non-tax revenues, as part of a program to strengthen the financial capacities of local authorities.
Supported by the Decentralization and Good Governance Program (ProDeG IV), implemented by GIZ, this initiative aims to provide the municipality with an up-to-date, geo-referenced database of taxpayers.
The census, which will run from March 4 to 11, 2025, targets shopkeepers, craftsmen, service providers and owners of bars, hotels and restaurants. By identifying new sources of non-tax revenue and improving taxpayer tracking, the municipality hopes to optimize local tax collection and enhance budget transparency.
In all, some twenty enumerators have been recruited and trained to carry out this mission. According to the commune's mayor, Tchemi Tchambi Tchapkro, this operation will enable more efficient management of local finances and guarantee better financing of public services.
With Niamtougou as its capital, the commune of Doufelgou 1 is part of the Doufelgou prefecture, located in the Kara region in the north-east of the country.
