In Togo, the Agence nationale de formation des collectivités territoriales (ANFCT) launched a series of training courses for the country's regional authorities in Dapaong on Monday February 17, 2025. This initiative mainly concerns the new regional councillors, installed last January, as well as their general secretaries, reports ATOP.

In concrete terms, this training aims to give them a better understanding of the issues and objectives of decentralization and deconcentration, while providing them with the tools they need to make informed decisions and implement local policies effectively. It also aims to clarify the role of the regional council, its competencies and its interactions with other institutional structures, notably the supervisory ministries, decentralized government departments and civil society.

To this end, participants will follow fundamental modules such as: a general introduction to decentralization and deconcentration, a presentation of the region's competencies as a territorial authority, and the functioning of the regional council and its relations with other players.

According to ANFCT Managing Director Komi Dodzi Denyo, the training is part of a drive to consolidate decentralization and equip regional managers with the tools they need to manage public affairs more effectively.

This program comes after an initial phase last November, aimed at local players on similar themes. After the Dapaong stage, devoted to the Savanes region, training will continue in the other four regions of the country.

These sessions are in line with ANFCT's mission, which is to provide training for local elected representatives, local authority staff and government officials involved in the decentralization process.
