Togo: the State structures consultation between the administration and local authorities
In Togo, decentralization continues with a project to create regional administrative conferences (CAR) and prefectoral administrative conferences (CAP).
Their creation was examined on first reading by the government at the Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday February 13, 2025.
These coordinating bodies are designed to strengthen synergy between central government and local authorities, particularly the regions.
According to the Council of Ministers, the CARs and CAPs will ensure greater coherence in development policies and more rigorous monitoring of government programs and projects.
As a reminder, Togo currently has five regions, headed by governors, themselves divided into 39 prefectures under the authority of prefects, and subdivided into 117 communes, managed by mayors.
