Benin/Training workshop for national health trainers in Benin: ARS and WHO make common cause on patient safety
As part of a joint initiative to strengthen patient safety in Benin, the Health Sector Regulatory Authority (ARS) announces the opening of a training workshop for specialized national trainers. The workshop will take place in Cotonou from January 29 to 31, 2025. This event, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Cotonou, represents an important step in the establishment of a health ecosystem that complies with the most rigorous safety standards.
Clear objectives for the healthcare sector
At a press conference held on Tuesday January 28, 2025, ARS President Dr Lucien DOSSOU-GBÉTÉemphasized the importance of this training program, which aims to equip healthcare professionals with practical skills in patient safety. This project is part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care in Benin, for the benefit of healthcare system users. WHO experts present at the press conference also argued that patient safety is an essential dimension of the quality of medical services.
WHO's commitment and the relevance of the
approach The WHO Resident Representative in Benin, Dr Kouamé Jean KONAN, expressed his gratitude to the ARS for its proactive commitment. In his speech, he noted that, although the issue of patient safety is a major challenge on the African continent, Benin has invested significantly in the leadership and resources needed to tackle it.
By supporting this training program, the WHO is affirming its role as a happy and committed partner in improving healthcare in the country. All in all, this training of national trainers represents a promising turning point for patient safety in Benin. It testifies to a strong political will to establish a rigorous care framework, where every player in the healthcare system collaborates to ensure the well-being of patients, thus reducing the risk of harm associated with medical care.
The challenge is immense, but the first stones are being laid towards a future where patient safety will be at the heart of national health concerns during these three days of training.
