Morocco/Al Haouz: more than 48,000 people targeted by the Cold Wave Mitigation Plan

The Provincial Cold Wave Mitigation Plan targets more than 48,000 people in Al Haouz province, including 16,000 children and 6,000 elderly people, with a focus on support and assistance for vulnerable groups.

According to the same data, the targeted population in the province is divided into 150 douars, 38 of which are classified in the high-risk red zone.

In the health sector, health services have been strengthened by the mobilization of 32 general practitioners, 11 specialized doctors and 111 nurses.In addition, 86 ambulances were equipped, 187 field visits were scheduled for medical teams, and five specialized medical campaigns were organized.

In terms of logistics, 95 snow-clearing vehicles have been deployed in the worst-affected areas, and fully-equipped advance centers have been set up to ensure rapid response.

Communications and energy infrastructures were also strengthened, with cell phone networks upgraded in remote areas and damaged electricity poles replaced.

In addition, an early warning system is being developed via smartphone applications to provide residents with real-time information on weather conditions.

Measures also include the distribution of basic necessities such as firewood, improved stoves and blankets to affected families, as well as support for schools with 75 tons of firewood and 7,500 blankets to ensure the continuation of schooling.
