France/ A commune in the Mauges region partners a combat company of the Angers Engineers
This military unit from Angers has approached Beaupréau-en-Mauges (Maine-et-Loire) to establish links, get closer and exchange ideas with the local population through field maneuvers and various interventions. The agreement was signed on Thursday January 16, 2025.
On Thursday January 16, just before the "vœux" ceremony, Frank Aubin, mayor of Beaupréau-en-Mauges, and Captain Dewasne, of the2nd Combat Engineer Company of the 6th Angers Regiment (Maine-et-Loire), signed a partnership agreement.
The choice of Beaupréau-en-Mauges is not insignificant. "During the 1914-1918 war, one of our company's sappers came from Gesté. It's a kind of tribute," explains the officer. It's also an opportunity for the 130 combat engineers who make up the company to get closer to the local population.
"Training on the ground
But that's not all. The commune is committed to acting as a facilitator to enable the regiment to come and train on the territory, during maneuvers that may also take place in schools. This includes the provision of rooms, grounds and other facilities," emphasize Frank Aubin and communications deputy Jérémy Thomas.
The agreement also enables elected representatives to invite the company to events such as commemorations and other local highlights, whether festive, cultural or sporting.
Explaining our missions
For Captain Dewasne, the agreement above all seals a closer relationship with the local population, especially as his company will be able to explain its various missions around the world to middle and high school students. At present, these engineers work mainly in Eastern Europe, in close liaison with NATO. In 2023, they were deployed to Niger.
This agreement will be tacitly renewed. In the meantime, joint actions and projects will be fine-tuned.
