SENEGAL-COLLECTIVITES-ENERGIE / City of Thiès: 350 million to modernize public lighting by 2024 (mayor)
The city of Thiès has launched a vast project to modernize its outdated street lighting network, at a total cost of 350 million FCFA, during 2024, APS has learned from mayor Babacar Diop.
The aim of phase 3 is to modernize the lighting on the main avenues of Thiès," noted the mayor of the Cité du Rail.
According to the mayor of Thiès, the city's lighting was dominated by the "4-4-44" network, which was more than 20 years old.
I wanted to modernize this network, so that we could switch from sodium to LED, and this cost us 350 million francs", said Babacar Diop.
This investment, he says, has modernized avenues such as Jean Colin, Caen, Lat-Dior, Madame Béye, Aïnina Fall and Léopold Sédar Senghor.
Deeming the current level of lighting on these avenues "very appreciable", the mayor also pointed out that, as in the previous year, the city had set about decorating the avenues with a new lighting scheme.he mayor also pointed out that, like last year, the city was busy decorating for Christmas and New Year's Eve, encouraging Thiessians to get out and about.
It's the only time when you see Thiessois reconciled with themselves, their families, their own city, (and) when children, young people, boys and girls come out en masse," he adds.
According to Babacar Diop, seeing the people of Thiessen invade the public squares reinforces his belief in the importance of rehabilitating, modernizing, lighting and decorating these places, for the benefit of the people.
"Today, I've seen people leaving Saint-Louis and Dakar to come and celebrate in Thiès, so much the better," he enthuses.
