On December 16 and 17, 2024, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie - Europe Centrale et Orientale (AUF - ECO) and the Institut Français de Roumanie, in partnership with the "Iuliu Hațieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, organized the third edition of the Symposium on Francophone Scientific Research in Central and Eastern Europe. This not-to-be-missed event brought together researchers from diverse backgrounds to discuss topical scientific issues and promote international cooperation in the region.
A multidisciplinary event to meet today's challenges
The symposium was distinguished by its multidisciplinary dimension, addressing topics at the heart of contemporary issues such as sustainable development, artificial intelligence, security, multilingualism and public health. Objectives
The main aim of this event was to promote French-speaking research collaborations and give them greater international visibility. A number of initiatives were implemented to encourage French-language research:
- Highlighting research structuring tools, such as international research groups, associated laboratories and Horizon Europe.
- Support the emergence of new scientific cooperations, by promoting exchanges between researchers, institutions and companies.
- Encourage French-language publications in a variety of fields.
- Strengthen scientific research partnerships with the private sector.
A varied program to encourage applied research
The symposium covered a wide range of scientific fields, reflecting the diversity of research carried out in the region:
- Languages and Human and Social Sciences (SHS)
- Law, economics and management
- Technical sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry
- Medical, veterinary and agricultural sciences
In addition to scientific conferences and presentations, a number of practical workshops were offered. These sessions enabled researchers to share their work and explore tools to facilitate French-speaking university cooperation.
Professor Adrian Cioroianu, Director General of the National Library of Romania, gave a plenary lecture on the French-speaking world in Romania. The challenges and prospects of the European University Alliances were discussed by M. International participation
The symposium brought together researchers from various European countries, including: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Kosovo, Moldavia, Romania, Switzerland and Ukraine. These participants had the opportunity to exchange views on their respective research projects and strengthen scientific ties in this key geographical area.
Strong media coverage
The event was covered by several radio stations. Adrian Tănăsescu, AUF Deputy Regional Director - ECO, spoke to RFI Bucharest and Radio România Cluj on the stakes of the Symposium. In her interview with RFI Romania, Ms. Laure Castin, Director of AUF - ECO, emphasized AUF's role as a "network of networks" and a creator of links.network of networks" and creator of links between experts in the French-speaking world, to stimulate teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration. In a constantly evolving world, faced with multiple challenges, joint reflection by researchers on current issues is essential.
Rewards and encouragement for scientific excellence
To encourage the involvement of young researchers, a prize for the best papers was awarded at the close of the symposium, highlighting the outstanding work of doctoral students and young researchers. Congratulations to the winners!
