Congo/ Pool department: a borehole to relieve the population of Soumouna
The Hope Congo Association, with the support of its partners, has built and commissioned a water borehole so that the population of Soumouna, in the Pool department, no longer has to travel miles for water.
Until now, water has been a rare commodity in Soumouna. "To get water, we had to travel 5km. This borehole, donated by the Hope Congo Association, will ease our suffering", said village chief Bernard Bikebi, in the presence of the prefect of the Pool department, Georges Kilebe, who inaugurated the borehole, and the partners who supported the association in its construction.
At a depth of 160m, the borehole runs on solar energy with four 500-volt panels, explained Gildas Mayela, national coordinator of the Hope Congo Association. Lampposts installed in the vicinity enable the population to obtain supplies at night. " This borehole will bring relief to the civilian and military population", he said, adding that it was the association's response to the grievances expressed by the population. Gildas Mayela called for a spirit of responsibility in safeguarding the project.
This is not the first time the Hope Congo Association has taken initiatives to meet the needs of the population. After the telethon, which enabled the Soumouna and Voula elementary school to be rehabilitated and built, providing pupils with school kits, the association did the same for the health center.
The association's national coordinator praised the spirit of solidarity shown by all its partners, notably Fondation Congo Assistance, Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo, the Burotop Iris Foundation and China Jiangsu International, who have not hesitated to lend a hand as part of their corporate social responsibility. " There are several other projects to be carried out in other villages," he assures us.
