Côte d'Ivoire / Launch of a village land tenure security program in Korhogo
On Saturday November 23, 2024 in Korhogo, Bamba Cheick Daniel, Managing Director of the Rural Land Agency (AFOR), launched a program to strengthen rural land tenure (PRESFOR), designed to certify plots of land in the department's villages.
According to AFOR's Managing Director, the program covers 23 sub-prefectures and 597 villages. It provides for the certification of 532 plots covering 533 ha, the demarcation of 434 villages and the issue of 53,273 land contracts.
"This operation is yours. Its success or failure depends on you. That's why I'm inviting all village chiefs, traditional and indigenous leaders to collaborate with the agents who will be deployed in the field. We must be united to ensure the success of this initiative", declared Mr. Bamba, believing that the land issue is essential for the country.
The representative of the President of the Poro Regional Council, Abou Nibi Coulibaly, stressed that this program represents a major opportunity for the region, as it will enable it to make up for the delay in implementing land policy.
"This program aims to reduce poverty, combat climate change, strengthen community resilience through job creation and capacity building for young people," Mr. Coulibaly stressed.
Created to replace the terroirs et parcelle delimitation program, PRESFOR will start in February 2025 and will cover 16 of the country's 31 regions.
