Congo/ Capacity building: the NGO "Viens et vois" organizes training in conflict management
From November 15 to 17, the non-governmental organization (NGO) "Viens et vois" is organizing a training course on conflict management in the school environment, with a view to consolidating discipline and inclusion in the Emmaüs school complex.
The aim is to integrate the lessons learned from the project management course on conflict awareness into the operation of the project to prevent sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment. The training aims to train trainers by integrating specific conflict management modules into their training in order to identify early signs of tension or abuse, as well as to strengthen the complaints system by setting up a complaints mechanism to deal with exploitation-related incidents.
It also enables complaints to be collected via complaint boxes and analyzed to find solutions for the smooth running of Complexe Scolaire Emmaüs, an inclusive school located in Kintélé.
The meeting is part of a project to prevent sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment. The project involves raising awareness of conflict among pupils, members of the "Viens et vois" organization and all teaching staff. A total of thirty participants were selected according to the selection criteria. They include teachers, educational staff, students, representatives of the International Blue Cross, members of the Viens et vois organization and parents.
Over the course of three days, teaching will take place in workshops on a number of themes with various facilitators. The presentation on "Conflict management" will be developed by psychologist Kaya Boufala. For the speaker, the aim is to familiarize trainers with the notions and principles of conflict sensitivity, the common causes of conflict and the different mechanisms of conflict resolution.
A case study on the types of conflict encountered in school and community settings was also presented. They also discussed conflict resolution mechanisms. The presentation on "Conflict resolution mechanisms: arbitration, negotiation and mediation" was given by lawyer Modeste Moussa.
The speaker emphasized the use of mediation or negotiation methods to intervene in conflicts between students and teachers or community members. However, he also presented different approaches to mediation and negotiation.Participants also benefited from simulations of meditation or negotiation sessions, with feedback on tools and techniques for resolving conflicts fairly.
The theme of "Non-violent communication", developed by communication expert Frédéric Koukimouka, edified participants on the art of non-violent communication as a key tool in conflict management, principles of non-violent communication, practical exercises in pairs to practice using non-violent communication in situations of tension, and group discussions to share the challenges and successes of the exercise.
