Morocco/Seawater desalination: ONEE supplies drinking water to the Amgrew fishing village in Tarfaya

The Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE) has just completed a project to secure the drinking water supply to the fishing village of Amgrew in the province of Tarfaya, using a seawater desalination plant.

This desalination plant is ONEE's 12th and its 10th in the Kingdom's southern provinces, according to an ONEE press release.

Financed by ONEE and the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Council, for a total amount of approximately 26.1 million dirhams (MDH), this project to securization of the drinking water supply to the Amgrew fishing village, includes equipping a seawater borehole with a flow rate of 1.037 m³ per day and the construction of a seawater desalination plant with a drinking water production capacity of 432 m³ per day.

The project also includes the construction of storage tanks for raw and treated water, a 250 KVA MV/LV transformer substation, and the laying of a discharge pipe along a linear length of 1.5 km.a 700-meter-long discharge pipe and the construction of a 250 m³ elevated storage tank for treated water, according to the same source.

The project, which forms part of the new development model for the southern provinces signed by HM King Mohammed VI, will meet the drinking water needs of the village of pêche Amgrew and will also help to improve living conditions for the population and support the region's socio-economic development.
