Konan Kouadio Lucien, Regional Director of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production in Bounkani, led an awareness campaign on October 11, 2024 in Sotitédouo to strengthen cohesion between breeders and farmers in the area.

The locality of Sotitédouo, an area of high agricultural activity located 19 km from Bouna, continues to experience tensions between farmers and breeders.

The main aim of the sensitization campaign was to teach herders how to avoid conflicts with farmers. Mr. Konan stressed the importance of herders taking precautions when grazing their animals, in order to preserve farmers' crops.

The regional director urged farmers not to take the law into their own hands, but rather to take part in the peaceful management of crop damage, in accordance with the relevant legislation.

This awareness-raising campaign is part of a wider effort to promote cohabitation with livestock breeders from Burkina.

Indeed, instability in this neighboring country has led to the arrival of many transhumant herders in the Bounkani region. These herders, accompanied by their flocks, are looking for new areas to graze their animals, causing damage to the crops of local farmers.
