In Togo, Wezou, the medical support program for pregnant women and newborns, has now passed the 600,000 beneficiary mark in three years. This was announced by the Togolese Minister of Health, Professor Tchin Darré, on the bangs of a media exchange session held on Monday October 14. The results cover the period from August 26, 2021 to August 31, 2024.

"The total number of pregnant women enrolled in the network is 606,009, the total number of prenatal consultations isnatal consultations is 600,000, and the total number of deliveries is around 357,758 ", said the Minister.

For Tchin Darré, these results illustrate the government's commitment to strengthening health services. In addition to assisted deliveries, the program has expanded its basket of care to include services such as obstetric ultrasound and blood tests, to ensure better care for women during pregnancy.

In all, nearly 3.2 million services were provided, against a backdrop of rising prenatal consultations and assisted childbirth rates.

His colleague, Jean-Marie Ewonule Tessi, spoke of the reforms currently underway in the Togolese healthcare system, through the Universal Health Insurance (AMU). He also spoke of the pooling of resources and the government's commitment to providing solid social protection. To date, some 800,000 people are insured by INAM and CNSS, which are implementing the project to reduce patients' medical costs.
