Benin/Sanitation of the city of Parakou: SGDS equips SMEs for pre-collection of waste and sanitation

On Friday, October 11, 2024, the Société de gestion des déchets et de la salubrité (SGDS) organized a training session for SMEs on waste pre-collection and sanitation in the city of Parakou. The training was launched in the meeting room of Parakou town hall by the cabinet director of the mayor of Parakou, in the presence of the human resources director and the operations director of the SGDS. Thirteen SMEs took part in the training.

SMEs receive training

SGDS's SME service providers and partners received training in pre-collection and sanitation activities in the city of Parakou. They were also familiarized with the contents of the framework agreement that binds them to the SGDS over a contractual period of three (3) years. The SMEs were also trained in the technical, administrative and financial procedures manuals.

According to Mesmer Yéou, Director of Operations at SGDS, the aim of the training is to prepare the SMEs recruited to carry out desilting, cleaning of sewage works and pre-collection of waste from households. These are very important activities that help to brighten up a city," said SGDS's Director of Operations. The operational, administrative and financial manuals for these activities were presented, as well as the obligations of the various parties to the contract. That is, SGDS and the SMEs. Mesmer Yéou outlined the relations that must exist between the SMEs, SGDS and the local authorities, as they have a role to play in ensuring that services are provided under the best possible conditions.

Participants were given a detailed presentation of all aspects of sanitation. The financial aspect was also addressed, in particular the salary of SME staff, who should not be paid less than the guaranteed minimum interpersonal wage (Smig), explained Mesmer Yéou.

Abdou Razack Mama, chief of staff to the mayor of Parakou, said the training would enable SMEs to meet the requirements of the SGDS. He insisted on the rigorous financial management of SMEs by SGDS.
