Togo/The CCI-Togo launches a project to support the rice industry
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Togo (CCI-Togo) will support the development of the rice industry through the Projet d'appui à la valorisation du riz togolais (PAVRIT). This project was presented on Thursday, October 10, 2024 in Kpalimé, on the sidelines of the official start of activities for the month of local consumption, will focus on promoting the consumption of local rice.
The project has two main focuses. On the one hand, it offers technical and financial support to local rice producers, and on the other, it aims to strengthen links between the various players in the rice value chain in Togo.
In its operational phase, the project will place particular emphasis on raising awareness among players in the value chain. It will also encourage advocacy initiatives aimed at limiting rice imports through regulatory measures.
" PAVRIT is not just about supporting local consumption. It also aims to fundamentally transform industrial practices, through awareness-raising campaigns and the introduction of more efficient technology, with a view to producing competitive rice on the market", asserted José Kwassi Symenouh, President of the CCI-Togo. According to him, this project is part of a vision for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector, with the ambition of making rice produced in Togo a quality product, appreciated on the local market and competitive internationally.
To ensure the success of this initiative, the CCI-Togo and the Conseil interprofessionnel de la filière riz plan to sign a memorandum of understanding shortly. This initiative should also contribute to the Togolese government's goal of producing 115,087 tonnes of rice by 2030, in order to meet the country's rice needs.
