Vietnam raises awareness of gender equality and girls' rights

Nearly 300 delegates, including educational leaders, students and representatives of UN bodies, gathered in Vinh Long (South) on October 12 for an event focused on promoting gender equality and girls' rights in Vietnam.

Organized by UN Women and UNESCO in collaboration with the Provincial Education and Training Department, the event aimed to promote gender equality and empower girls in education.

The event included exhibitions, interactive games and art competitions, encouraging students to express their views on the role of girls in shaping their future.

The students took part in a special "Beijing+30 Bus Tour", which recognized Vietnam's progress towards gender equality in China.s progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action over the past 30 years.

Inspiring speeches from leading women in education, sport and science motivated students, especially girls, to look to their future and pursue their dreams with confidence.

UN Women representative Caroline Nyamayemombe stressed the importance of equipping girls with STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital and green economy.UNESCO's representative in Vietnam, Jonathan Wallace Baker, emphasized the essential role of teachers in promoting an inclusive and equitable education system for a sustainable future.

The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of investing in girls' education and to honor the contributions of educators in supporting their overall development.
