On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Togo launched a standardization process for agri-food products. The initiative is led by the Agence togolaise de normalisation (ATN), which is organizing a two-day exchange workshop in Lomé, with the aim of setting up technical committees.

These committees, made up of representatives from ministries, the private sector, laboratories and research institutions, will be responsible for defining standards according to the priorities of the various agri-food sectors.

According to the Haute autorité de la qualité et de l'environnement (HAUQE), this ATN initiative is important for the country as it promotes its local products and aims to penetrate international markets. For the HAUQE, " standardization has become essential to strengthen the competitiveness of Togolese products on a global scale ".

This process is supported by the World Bank, which has provided an international consultant to assist in the development of national standards. Funding is also provided by the institution through the Food System Resilience Program for West Africa (FSRP-Togo), which aims to develop the country's agri-food sector.
