As a prelude to the inauguration of its Parakou office scheduled for today, October 4, 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) organized a health march through the city of Parakou on October 03, 2024. The Prefect Djibril Mama Cissé of Borgou and the WHO Resident Representative were at the head of the march. Health Minister Benjamin Hounkpatin caught up with the march.

Setting off from the Parakou prefecture, the health march ended at the Parakou OMS office behind SNTN Guéma in Parakou's first arrondissement. The marchers, the vast majority of whom were members of Parakou's sports clubs and associations and health sector staff, covered a distance of 6 kilometers. At the end of the walk, an awareness-raising session was held on the various non-communicable diseases, the benefits of vaccination and the right reflexes to develop to be safe from them.

The Prefect of Borgou thanked the various sports clubs in the town who took part in the march for their great mobilization. Djibril Mama Cissé pointed out that the nation needs a healthy population to build itself. He therefore urged those present to make walking or any other sporting activity part of their daily routine.

Health Minister Benjamin Hounkpatin, who attended the awareness-raising session, said he was delighted to see the walkers cover the 6 kilometers. Walking is a fundamental good. He urged the audience to follow the advice given by the various speakers, in order to stay in good health. He also stressed the importance of blood donation to save lives.
