In 2024, the Querrien (Finistère) and Dunmore (Ireland) twinning committee celebrates its 42nd anniversary and will be welcoming 16 Irish people from August 17 to 24. To celebrate this anniversary in style, the committee has put together a rich program throughout the week.
Exhibition and British-Irish evening
"For some months now, we've been collecting everything connected with the twinning, from its creation in 1982 to the present day, including personal photos, documents and press articles", says the twinning office. After a long process of sorting, dating and formatting, 30 panels have been created, recounting 40 years of friendship between Querrien and Dunmore. They will be on display in the town's multi-purpose hall from Wednesday August 14 to Tuesday August 20, 2024, before being moved to the media library.
Everything is now ready to welcome the 11 Irish people who will land in Brest on August 17, 2024, and will be transported to Querrien by the two Ti Ma Bro minibuses. The other 5 will arrive by boat on the morning of Sunday August 18, 2024, to attend the official ceremony.
The mayor will take advantage of their presence to inaugurate the church's woodwork with them, and show them around the Maison Âge & Vie, the Espace Jeunes and the school, whose restoration is now complete. A festive meal will follow at 1 p.m. in the salle multifonction, open to all. At 8 p.m., the public is invited to a British-Irish evening.
Visit to the medieval town and fishing port
On Monday August 19, the evening will be spent at L'Hermine, with music and song. On Tuesday 20th, at 11 a.m., a visit to the peasant bakers of Chemin des Landes is scheduled, while in the afternoon, participants can choose between the beach or a hike. In the evening, a crêpe dinner will be organized at the Espace Jeunes.
On Wednesday August 21, visitors can discover Guérande: "Meet at 7.15 a.m. on the square for a morning tour of the medieval town, and after lunch at the restaurant, a trip on the little train through the 1800 ha of salt marshes before learning all about how Guérande salt is made and visiting the fishing port", explain co-chairmen Maryse Toulgoat and Sylvie Perez.
On Thursday afternoon, the group will be at the Fête de la belle Angèle in Pont-Aven (Finistère). The last day, Friday August 23, will be devoted to a visit to Quimper, ending with a farewell evening with the families, before departing on Saturday August 24, 2024.
