France/Seilhac - Twinning celebrations in Hilpoltstein
Seilhac. Twinning: a fine family celebration. stay. Thirty-eight inhabitants of the extended Seilhac canton visited their friends in Hilpoltstein, on the occasion of their castle festival.
The host families pulled out all the stops to enable the Seilhacois to enjoy this annual event, which recalls a part of Hilpoltstein's history, and which takes place over four days. A thousand-strong costume parade, a big top with 3,000 people singing, merry-go-rounds, a huge garage sale, 20,000 people enjoying themselves, all without incident, were all admired by the French. The group had previously visited Heidelberg and its castle, taken a mini-cruise in Wursburg, wandered through the streets of Rothenburg in torrential downpours, and discovered Nuremberg. The Bad Wisheim open-air museum gave us a better understanding of the Franconian countryside. The Corréziens brought back a young German who will spend two weeks with a family in Saint-Clément to perfect his French. Next year's meeting in and around Seilhac will mark the 25th anniversary of the twinning. Jean-Marie, for Seilhac, and Imgard, for Hilpoltstein, have already begun preparations with their teams.
