SENEGAL-FORMATION / Launch of a training project for young people from Langue Barbarie resettled in Djougob
A project dedicated to training and apprenticeship in new trades and to the professional integration of young people from the Langue de Barbarie, resettled in the Djougob district of Saint-Louis (north), was officially launched on Tuesday.
The Vocational Training Center hosted the official launch ceremony for this initiative, financed as part of the implementation of the Saint-Louis Emergency Recovery and Resilience Project (SERRP) in collaboration with the Municipal Development Agency (ADM).
The beneficiaries of this project are essentially young people from the Langue de Barbarie whose families were rehoused in Djougob and its suburbs due to the advancing sea and the floods of 2017.
The Director of the Saint-Louis Vocational Training Center, Rokhaya Samb Sarr, urged the project's beneficiaries to be self-sacrificing and diligent in attending the courses that will be delivered over the next five months.
She pointed out that training will be provided in horticulture, hairdressing, dressmaking, pastry-making and waste management.
Saint-Louis education inspector Mafall Der agreed, urging young people to give themselves the chance to turn their backs on clandestine emigration.
On behalf of the Agence de développement municipal (ADM), social and gender expert Marie Dioh Diallo hailed the relevance of such an initiative. In addition to formal training, vocational training has an important role to play in the integration of young people", she added, suggesting that clandestine emigration reflects a lack of prospects for young people.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Saint-Louis Chamber of Trades, the Vocational Training Centre (CFP) and the Regional Vocational Training Centre (CRFP).
