Canada/ Centraide Richelieu-Yamaska helps local children go back to school
Centraide Richelieu-Yamaska (R-Y) will invest $180,000 as part of the Centraide Opération Septembre program for the start of the 2024 school year. This amount will be divided among the seven MRCs in the region, including Pierre-De Saurel.
This program aims to support families in economically precarious situations by helping them cover the costs of school supplies, homework assistance and clothing needed for a successful start to the new school year.
Registration for the Centraide Opération Septembre program is now open. Families in need are invited to contact the Centre d'action bénévole (CAB) du Bas-Richelieu, which manages the program in the region. The organization will then determine its own eligibility policy, as well as the list of items or services to be reimbursed.
"Thanks to the generosity of our many donors and the collaboration of 15 community organizations across our territory, we are able to provide concrete help to those who need it most. This initiative helps reduce the financial stress associated with back-to-school, by ensuring that every child has the tools they need to succeed," says Centraide R-Y via press release.
Since its launch in 1992, the Centraide Opération Septembre program has distributed over $3.6 million to more than 34,000 families in the seven RCMs of the territory, including Pierre-De Saurel. Last year, 1,851 elementary and high school students received help from this program.
