On July 16, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved important resolutions concerning school education in the city for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. These resolutions aim to reduce school fees for families and improve revenue management for educational services in public schools.

Tuition fees for public pre-schools and elementary school have been reduced by around 100,000 to 240,000 dôngs per month per student, depending on grade level. This reduction is in line with income levels for the 2021-2022 school year. Preschoolers aged 5 will be exempt from tuition fees from the 2024-2025 school year. Middle school students will be exempt from tuition fees from the 2025-2026 school year.

Adjustment of revenues for educational services

The list of revenues for services to support educational activities in public schools has been reduced from 26 to 9 items. Some revenues have been adjusted to comply with current regulations, and new revenues have been added, such as air conditioner rental fees. Maximum revenue levels have been defined, although public schools have the option of agreeing with parents a specific fee level below these maximum levels. Public schools must draw up revenue and expenditure estimates based on the reality and needs of their students.
