In a press release issued on Thursday, the Caisse nationale de mutualité agricole (CNMA) announced the organization of awareness-raising, outreach and prevention days against lumpy skin disease (DNC) in cattle, as part of its "commitment to helping cattle breeders across the country".

These days cover all the wilayas affected by the virus, mobilizing its 71 regional mutuals and more than 570 local offices across the country.As a local insurer and advisor, CNMA plays "a key role" in the prevention campaign against this viral disease, which affects cattle but cannot be transmitted to humans.

Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that only affects cattle. It is transmitted mainly by biting insects, and manifests itself as fever and nodules of varying sizes on the animals' skin, the same source points out.

To this end, CNMA informs that it is making available to breeders, veterinary experts to support them with a full range of preventive measures, advice and recommendations to be rigorously followed.

To this end, CNMA recommends that breeders immediately consult CNMA's veterinary experts in the event of any suspicion of DNC'', CNMA veterinary experts will be conducting surveys of stables and barns to detect any signs of the disease.

"This proactive surveillance is essential to contain and eradicate the infection", he stressed.

CNMA also informs that it is "providing farmers, free of charge, with suits, sprayers, insecticides and disinfectants to combat the insects that carry the disease".

It also recommends the strict application of measures prohibiting the movement of animals from infected farms, as well as the disinfection of premises and tools used"..

In the same vein of prevention, the agricultural insurer notes that, in addition to disinfection measures, "the isolation of infected animals is crucial to avoid the spread of the virus".

Farmers are encouraged to limit the movement of their animals, particularly in areas at high risk of transmission," it advises.
