On Friday, April 19, 2024, the NGO International Youth Actions for Development (IYAD) launched the Agrolelab project to train 50 unemployed young men and women from the Agneby Tiassa region for professional integration in the agro-ecological sector.

IYAD vice-president Gagas Bibi VIII Pierre Nicodème explained that the Agroelab project targets unemployed young people aged between 18 and 35, particularly women, to train them in technical agro-ecological trades.

The ultimate aim is to integrate them into partner agricultural companies, including Miera Opportunity, through contracts that comply with International Labor Organization (ILO) standards.

M. Gagas noted that this project is part of the Year of Youth declared in 2023 by the President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.publique de Côte d'Ivoire, underlining its crucial importance for the country's development by making young people key players in progress.

Côte d'Ivoire, as an emerging economic power in sub-Saharan Africa, is experiencing significant growth, thanks in particular to its agricultural sector, an essential pillar accounting for 25% of gross domestic product (GDP) and over 50% of the working population.

Despite these successes, the sector faces major challenges such as low yields, vulnerability to climate change and the pressing need for diversification.

On behalf of the German Society for International Cooperation, Glenat Aurore reiterated her institution's support for the NGO IYAD in its fight against youth unemployment.
