Taounate - On February 13, 2024, the Office National de l'Électricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE) commissioned the project to extend the Taounate treatment plant from the Sahla dam, with the aim of reinforcing and securing the drinking water supply to the town of Taounate and neighboring municipalities.

At a total cost of around 76 million dirhams, financed with the participation of Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KFW), this project involves extending the existing raw water pumping station and treatment plant to provide an additional nominal flow of 8.640 m³ per day, raising the production capacity of the existing plant to 12,960 m³ per day, as well as the reinforcement of the treated water pumping station, says ONEE in a press release.

The project, part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) 2020-2027, the agreement for which was signed on January 13, 2020 before His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will meet the drinking water needs of the city of Taounate and neighboring communes by 2030, benefiting a total population of over 149.000 inhabitants.

It will also help to improve living conditions for the beneficiaries and support the region's socio-economic development, concludes the same source.
