Cat lovers Delphine and Rémi Maletto have made it their mission to help the stray cats of Andelot-en-Montagne, without disrupting their way of life.

First there was Nala, then Grelot, Tarzan, Praline, Noisette...

Cat lovers Delphine and Rémi Maletto have made it their mission tohelp the municipality's stray cats, without disrupting their way of life. It's a mission that took on a life of its own, just as cats do...

"When we moved into the commune in July, we quickly saw that there were lots of cats in the grounds. The neighbors told us that they had been born in the garden over several generations and were living there," explains Delphine Maletto.

"We started feeding them, until a mother arrived with her three babies, bringing the total to around 15. In addition to the sterilization operations carried out by the town hall, we decided to create an association, called Les Patounes Andelotiens, to take care of them and sterilize them in a reasoned way."

Caring for cats and supporting residents

"Our aim is not to place kittens, but to respect the way they live in the wild, and to be there solely to care for and register them," explains Delphine Maletto.

"The association is also there to support residents of the Andelot commune who may have stray cats near them, whether for food or care. One of our neighbors, for example, has around twenty of them..."

To achieve this, Les Patounes Andelotiens works in partnership with Maxi Zoo in Champagnole, and the veterinary clinic in Salins-les-Bains.

An animal day

To raise its profile, the association is organizing its very first event on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Salle polyvalente in Andelot-en-Montagne, starting at 10 am. For the occasion, it will welcome La ferme en folie, based in Equevillon.

Sabrina Bianchi, animal mediator, will be on hand to provide entertainment with her animals: pigs, dwarf goats, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs...

Two ponies will also be on hand for short rides with the children .

To raise funds for sterilization and kibbles, the association will also be offering a small catering service with homemade sweet treats, drinks, honey from a beekeeper in Le Latet and kiwis from Arbois.

Picnic tables will be available for those wishing to eat on site, in contact with the animals.
