Burkina Faso/Humanitarian aid: Plan International Burkina launches a new project in the Centre-Nord region

On December 14, 2023, Plan International Burkina Faso officially launched a new project to respond to emergencies in the Centre-Nord region. The ceremony was presided over by the governor of the region, represented by the high commissioner of the BAM province, Adama Jean Yves Béré.

Plan International Burkina's aim was to share the main thrusts of the project's implementation with its stakeholders, in order to secure their support and involvement in achieving its objectives. the official launch ceremony of its "multisectoral response to the needs of vulnerable populations affected by the dual security and food crisis in the Centre-Nord region-Phase 3" project.

According to Plan International Burkina's resident representative, the project aims to respond to the needs of those affected in five (5) areas. "Over a 12-month period, with a target of 17,600 beneficiaries, 61% of whom are women, around 52% girls and more than 10,000 children, the project operates in 5 sectors, notably protection (gender-based violence and child protection), health and education.protection (gender-based violence and child protection), shelter construction, WASH, nutrition and food security", explained Karl Frédéric Paul Estrada.

During the workshop, the broad outlines of the project, including objectives and expected results, as well as project governance, were presented to the authorities and stakeholders from the region's 3 provinces. On their behalf, and on behalf of the region's governor, Jean Yves Béré expressed the region's gratitude to Plan International Burkina, for the many ways in which it supports and accompanies the efforts of the Burkinabe state in responding to emergencies.

"I note that Plan International is committed to supporting the efforts of the Burkinabe government in its multi-sectoral response. That's why, on behalf of the highest authorities, I'd like to express the gratitude of the people of the Centre-Nord region, and by extension all the people of Burkina Faso, to Plan International and the entire humanitarian community for the smile and the support they have given us. humanitarian community for the smiles and fulfilment they bring to vulnerable populations", said Jean Yves Béré.

While expressing the hope that the project will be able to achieve its objectives, with a concern for efficiency and effectiveness in its implementation, Jean Yves Béré, on behalf of the Governor, reassured the audience of of the commitment and availability of the administration at regional, provincial and departmental level, to facilitate the implementation of the project for the benefit of the people of the region.

This unfailing support was acknowledged by Aminata Rabo, Regional Director Centre-Nord, Plan International Burkina, Kaya office, in her welcoming remarks.

Funded by the Regional Humanitarian Fund for West and Central Africa (FHRAOC), the "Projet réponse multisectorielle aux besoins des populations vulnérables touchées par la double crise sécuritaire et alimentaire dans la région du Centre-nord - phase 3 (FHRAOC 3)" is being implemented over the period September 2023 to September 2024 in three (03) communes in the region (Kongoussi, Boulsa and Boussouma).
