Cameroon: the town of Mbalmayo wins the 1st national prize for best municipal practices
The results were unveiled on Thursday December 14, 2023 at a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam.
The fifth Feicom national prize for best local development practices was awarded yesterday. The commune of Mbalmayo came out on top. It won first prize, worth 70 million FCFA, for its infrastructure and equipment management project. Emphasis was placed on the project to build social infrastructures using recycled plastic bottles.
The commune headed by Dieudonné Zang Mba Obele in the Nyong et So'o, Centre region, is ahead of Nkongsamba1er in the Littoral region. Nkongsamba1er is ranked 2nd. It won an envelope of 50 million FCFA. The prize was awarded to encourage the efforts of the municipal executive in implementing its clean city operation in the field of sustainable development.
The commune of Dimako in the East region took third prize, worth 30 million FCFA. The prize is awarded to the local authority's management team for its good management of the communal forest in the field of resource management.
In addition to these three communes, other best development practices in the country's 10 regions received awards. For this 5th edition, the Fonds d'équipement et d'intervention intercommunale (Equipment and Intercommunal Intervention Fund) said it had awarded prizes to the various winners, worth a total of 325 million CFA francs.
