Belgium/"1/3 of cyclists are ill-equipped to ride in the dark": two-wheelers on the streets of Namur learn more
The time change hit this weekend, and with it comes the onset of nightfall. Visibility is reduced, and for weaker road users, the dangers on our roads are multiplied. That's why volunteers from GRACQ Namur - Groupe De Recherche et d'Action des Cyclistes quotidiens - took to the streets to raise cyclists' awareness of the importance of riding well lit.
"Seeing and being seen is the #1 safety tip on the road. When cycling, it's a legal obligation to use appropriate lighting from dusk onwards. Around 2/3 of cyclists are properly equipped. Westill need to convince the remaining third", says the organization.
A single message: "Light up! Thus, "any cyclist riding between dusk and dawn, or in visibility of less than 200 m, must have the following equipment: a white or yellow light and a white reflector at the front; a red light and reflector at the rear, visible from 100 m ; yellow or orange reflectors on the pedals (on both sides), but also on the wheels or white reflective strips on the tires", points out GRACQ. Here are a few good reflexes to have before setting off.
