The twinning committee in Inguiniel (Morbihan) is looking for volunteers to bring the twinning project with the Irish of Lanesborough-Ballyleague to life.

The first twinning project was approved by the entire town council in June 2020. Lanesborough-Ballyleague, a small Irish town with a population of 1,600, was chosen. This "sister" town on the Shannon, on the borders of counties Roscommon and Longford, shares Inguiniel's desire for cultural, educational and sporting exchanges.

Call for volunteers

In order to set up the twinning committee, Gérard Benoit, deputy mayor, is calling for the active participation of all Inguiniel residents and associations wishing to get involved in this project. He invites those interested to make themselves known as soon as possible via the town hall website. The committee as an association, with a board and members ready to welcome the Irish and let them experience and discover our beautiful region.

Gérard Benoit, the man behind the idea, explains that twinning is "an opening onto the world, a means of intercultural exchange, an invitation to travel. This project, he continues, was initiated at the beginning of the term of office. The contacts and meetings established in 2020 with the various partners were severely compromised by the health crisis. However, as we approach the end of 2023, the project has made good progress, and could even come to fruition very quickly! This kind of rapprochement should create a new dynamic, both in terms of culture, education and sport, and in terms of the blending of identities and experiences.

Ambitious projects are planned between the twinned towns, such as school correspondence, sports exchanges and trips. Exchanges will also involve hosting (at least annually), in the home of a local resident, to discover our respective identities and daily living practices," concludes Gérard Benoit.
