Morocco/CMC of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra: a structure dedicated to strengthening vocational training and employability of young people

Like the Cité des Métiers et des Compétences (CMC) in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, inaugurated on Tuesday by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in the town of Tamesna, the CMC in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra is intended to be a new-generation training facility, aimed at diversifying the range of specialties offered for training and adapting it to the needs of the job market.

The Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra CMC is part of an overall program to build 12 CMCs in various regions of the Kingdom, at a projected total investment of 4.4 billion dirhams.The Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra CMC reflects the Sovereign's particular interest in the vocational training sector, as a strategic lever for economic competitiveness and a promising avenue for the professional integration of young people.

In early November, the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra CMC welcomed its first class for the 2022-2023 training year, with 1,250 trainees, including 630 in diploma training (1st year) and 620 in skills training.

Built on a 6-hectare site, in addition to the common structures and the trainees' house, the facility comprises six business units, namelyhealth", with an educational care unit and 140 trainees, "transport and logistics", with a logistics platform and driving lanes, and "transport and logistics", with a logistics platform and driving lanes, and "transport and logistics", with a logistics platform and driving lanes.a logistics platform and driving tracks (360 trainees), "the fishing cluster", equipped with a fish processing chain (100 trainees), and "the management and trade cluster, including a virtual company (260 trainees), as well as two other clusters: crafts (80 trainees) and digital (320 trainees).

As part of the regional development dynamic, this CMC, with a total capacity of 2.000 training places per year, offers a diversified range of training courses covering 46 sectors, 70% of them newly created, to meet the evolving skills needs of sectors with high employment potential for the region.

Speaking in a statement to M24, the continuous news channel of Agence MAP, the regional director of the Office de la Formation Professionnelle et de la Promotion du Travail (OFPPT) in the southern provinces, Tayeb Sami Solh, stressed that that the Laâyoune CMC is a "new generation" establishment offering a particularly diversified range of training courses, focusing on high-potential fields.

The development of skills and talents is at the heart of the trainees' training, and this through the various common structures made available to them, he continued, citing, among others, the innovation incubator and the vocational guidance center for the accompaniment of young people.

This structure is part of the implementation of the roadmap for the development of vocational training presented to HM King Mohammed VI in April 2019, which aims to the employability of young people from the southern provinces and to meet the needs of companies at regional and national level, said Mr. Solh. Solh.

For her part, Hajar El Abbadi, trainer in French language, communication and soft-skills, emphasized that the Laâyoune CMC offers a diversified training program that meets the requirements of the job market, noting that this training is reinforced by the learning of languages and soft-skills.

Yassine Bekkar, trainer in marketing and commerce, noted that the management and commerce division aims to develop technical skills in commerce and management, especially as it offers innovative, up-to-date and diversified training to trainees.

For their part, the trainees emphasized that the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra CMC is a structure that will enable them to pursue theoretical and practical courses and strengthen their skills in the various fields.

Trainees at the Laâyoune CMC benefit from training programs that have been updated and developed in line with the new OFPPT pedagogical model.OFPPT's new pedagogical model, which aims to guarantee the development of professional skills and soft skills, by placing the learner at the heart of the learning process.

This new pedagogical model is characterized in particular by updated contents and the adoption of a playful learning combining the "Learning by doing" to the Digital tools, in addition to a hybrid mode of training alternating the learning at distance and face to face.

Within this framework, the new pedagogical model devotes 30% of the programs to strengthening learners' soft skills to promote their professional integration and career development.

CMC also has a Coworking space, a Digital Factory and an incubator that encourage interaction between trainees and stimulate the emergence of creative ideas, especially since it is equipped with a computer lab.Moreover, it has a Career Guidance Center to support young people, from the choice of field to support integration, through the search for internships.

The CMC of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra was built by the OFPPT in execution of the High Royal Directions, and in accordance with the new roadmap for the development of vocational training which establishes new material, technical and financial criteria.tablishes new material, pedagogical and governance criteria, guaranteeing quality training and a certain convergence between the training provided and the real needs of the labor market.

It should be recalled that the southern provinces of the Kingdom will host two other CMCs, under construction, in the regions of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and Guelmim-Oued Noun.
