Togo and Ghana together against illegal fishing

Togo and Ghana are working to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the fisheries sector. The ministers in charge of this sector in both countries exchanged last October in Lomé on illegal practices in the waters.

Specifically, the Togolese Minister of Maritime Economy, Edem Tengue and his counterpart from Ghana, Hawa Koomson, discussed the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, maritime piracy and the implementation of a regional observer program.and unregulated fishing (IUU), maritime piracy and the implementation of a regional observer program.

The two officials also discussed future projects, including the establishment of a sub-regional biological rest period for fish species and scientific research on fisheries.

The two neighboring countries are linked by several cooperation agreements in various fields.
