On November 16, in the presence of guests and dignitaries, Saint-Ours City Council and Mayor Sylvain Dupuis officially launched the 350th anniversary of the founding of the City of Saint-Ours.

Several activities will be scheduled over the next few months to celebrate the life of the place where men and women, since 1672, through their work, their courage and their determination have written its history.

"Shows, commemorations, cultural and sports activities; we want to celebrate with the population of Saint-Ours and the surrounding area, but also with those who were born or lived there and invite them to join us, throughout the next few months, to live this historic moment in the life of our municipality. Our fellow citizens are at the heart of this project that we want to bring together. A project that pays tribute to the past, bears witness to the present and invites us to imagine the future," said Sylvain Dupuis, Mayor of Saint-Ours.

Luc Bertrand, citizen and municipal councillor of the City of Saint-Ours, reveals that the official date of foundation is October 29, 1672. "When a seigneury was created in Saint-Ours, the owner was Pierre de Saint-Ours, an officer in the Carignan-Salières Regiment. He received at the time of his marriage, as a concession, the seigneury of Saint-Ours which extended on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River up to the Yamaska River, between the lands of his comrades-in-arms, Mr. de Saurel and Mr. Pécaudy de Contrecœur. The title deeds were transferred to him on October 29, 1672. "

Founded 350 years ago, the City of Saint-Ours is located on the banks of the Richelieu River in the Pierre-De Saurel RCM. It is named after Pierre de Saint-Ours, who was a captain in the Carignan-Salières regiment. In addition to buildings and places that are part of the history of Quebec, there is the National Historic Site of the Saint-Ours Canal.
