The Intercommunal Economic Development and Planning of the Heart of Hainaut (Idea), presented this Thursday in Mons its balance sheet for the year 2021 and the prospects for 2022. Economic development, mobility, tourism, renewable energies, environment and circular economy are the main axes of the structuring projects led by the intermunicipal association, which will have to establish a new strategic plan for the period 2023-2025.

Among the major projects to be implemented in 2021 are the conversion of the disused BASF industrial site in Feluy, the clean-up plan for the Wasmuël water treatment plant, the development of eleven wind turbines, and the construction of a new industrial park.of eleven wind turbines in the heart of the Ghlin-Baudour, Seneffe-Manage and Soignies-Braine-le-Comte business parks, and the deployment of three renewable energy communities in the heart of the business parks.

The year 2021 also saw the launch of the "Bus à haut niveau de service - BHNS" project linking Mons and the Borinage. The new "Val'up " PMC sorting plant in Ghlin was put into operation. The work of equipping the PAE of Manage Nord and the Urbanica micro-zone in the center of La Louvière as well as the marketing of Initialis 2.0 in Mons were launched.

Business parks

Idea currently represents 54 business parks spread over 3,600 hectares: 42 parks have an occupancy rate ranging from 0 to 92% and 12 parks are fully occupied. The inter-municipal area also includes 11 zones under development, 19 relay buildings intended to host companies in the manufacturing, logistics, chemical, telecommunications and services sectors, and a European Business and Innovation Center. The 1,050 companies in Idea's parks have generated 23,700 jobs to date.
