The municipality of Berche places social responsibility, in a logic of sustainable development, at the heart of its territorial project. By providing concrete, cross-cutting and local responses to social, cultural and environmental challenges, the commune is committed to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

In this context, from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 October 2021, the Municipality of Berche is organising the "Sustainable Development Week" with the specific themes for this year being "The climate plan" and "Waste management". During this week, the Municipal Council will sign a Sustainable Development Charter with the ambition of clearly formulating the objectives to be achieved in order to give legibility, visibility and coherence to the present and future actions carried out in an annual municipal sustainable development plan. The actions of this Sustainable Development Charter are divided into 8 areas:
- promote responsible consumption patterns
- act on transport and energy
- strengthen citizen involvement and the mobilisation of inhabitants and local players on Sustainable Development
- control the consumption of water resources and limit waste
- enhance and protect natural areas and biodiversity
- build a sustainable village by integrating Sustainable Development into all development projects
- strengthen social cohesion at local level
- consolidate the services essential to human development
