Vietnam and China step up development cooperation

On December 18, the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) held talks in the northern province of Lang Son on strengthening Vietnam-China development cooperation.

The Smart Border Gates pilot project, cooperation in vocational training and social development assistance programs for Vietnam's northern provinces were the focus of a meeting on strengthening Vietnam-China development cooperation, held ondevelopment cooperation, held on December 18 in Lang Son province, between the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

Providing updates on the construction of a smart border at the Huu Nghi (Vietnam) - Youyi Guan (China) border crossing pair, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Doàn Thanh Son said that after the signing of theframework agreement with the administration of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Lang Son had accelerated the extension of a special freight road from four to eight and then to 14 lanes, in line with Chinese infrastructure.

The vice-governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Liao Pinhu, stressed that the establishment of the smart border gate represented a mutual aspiration of both parties, while affirming close cooperation with Lang Son to implement the project.

To date, China has completed the construction of key infrastructure, including cargo handling areas and an IT system.

China is ready to support the Vietnamese province in the planning and development of an intelligent system and infrastructure, he added.

With regard to bilateral cooperation in vocational training (Lu Ban class), the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working with relevant parties to facilitate educational exchanges. The Ministry has requested the assistance of the Chinese Ambassador to resolve procedural disputes.

In addition, Vietnam has proposed four social development projects in the provinces of Bac Kan, Tuyên Quang and Yên Bai, focusing on transport infrastructure and improving education. The Chinese Embassy in Vietnam is currently examining these proposals.

In conclusion, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Trân Quôc Phuong, stressed the high mutual determination to accelerate cooperation initiatives, in particular the pilot project on the smart border gate.

ACCID Chairman Luo Zhaohui welcomed the cooperation between the two countries in recent years, highlighting shared perceptions in establishing a collaborative mechanism to promote the smart border gate pilot project.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and ACCID signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen this pilot project.
