In Togo, the Ministry of Agriculture is training horticultural sector players to adapt to climate change through innovative agricultural technologies. To this end, this week (June 25 and 26), the ministry organized a training course for agricultural technicians, representatives of NGO members of the PROFIT consortium, ITRA, ICAT, and experts from the environmental department.

The meeting, which took place in Kpalimé (120 km from Lomé), is part of the Projet Promotion des Filiè resres horticoles au Togo (PROFIT), financially supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/Food for Progress.

The main objective of the workshop was to identify climate-sensitive agricultural technologies and techniques specifically adapted to the sustainable production of okra, chillies and cassava. Discussions focused on the selection of seeds adapted to changing climatic conditions, the adoption of resilient cropping practices, as well as efficient water management to ensure year-round production.

Boabekoa Guidan, Deputy Director of PROFIT, stressed the importance of developing training modules based on the technologies identified, aimed at building the capacity of agricultural players in the production, processing and marketing of horticultural products. He called on participants to focus their efforts on concrete, practical solutions, essential for supporting farming communities in the long term. Implemented by Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and its partners (GRED, ODIAE, RAFIA, OADEL and CRS), PROFIT will run for five years, with the aim of boosting the horticultural sector in Togo until September 2028.
