France/Mazières-en-Gâtine. Mazières-Lesna twinning takes stock
The general meeting of the Mazières Lesna-Podlaska twinning took place on March 21. 2024 was an eventful year. Thanks to the motivation and energy of the board of directors, members and friends, several events took place in Mazières-en-Gâtine.
The start of 2024 was marked by participation in the3rd UkrainianChristmas organized by Amitiés sans frontières. It was a moving day with the refugee families welcomed to Deux-Sèvres," explains Brigitte Ambergny, president of the twinning committee. In March, the "Ukraine, a European design" exhibition attracted some 200 visitors. And from May 5 to 10 (in partnership with the Mazières firefighters), the committee welcomed 10 Polish firefighters with their mayor, the president of the municipal council and the first deputy mayor. The week was very intense and rich," remarks Brigitte Ambergny. The year ended with a Polish-inspired dinner-dance.
Good health
The financial statements show the good health of the twinning, but also the major investments to be made for exchanges with Lesna-Podlaska. A cooperation project focusing on sport and youth will be further developed.
After 13 years, Nicole Fortuné no longer wishes to be co-president, but remains a member of the Board of Directors. At a time when solidarity with Central European countries is more vital than ever, twinning plays an active role in building lasting peace in Europe. In these times of global imbalance, it seems increasingly important to us to maintain the links created by these twinnings, and it's reassuring to see that there are still human relationships between people," concludes Brigitte Ambergny.
