Vietnam/Dà Nang named Vietnam Smart City 2025
Dà Nang has been named Vietnam's Smart City of the Year 2025, winning the most prestigious and only national title awarded this year by the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA).
VINASA announced the award on Saturday December 6, following a final selection phase earlier this month. Experts evaluated the submissions and an independent analysis of the participating provinces and cities.
The jury, chaired by the former Minister of Science and Technology, Nguyên Quân, voted for localities that it felt had achieved outstanding performance in digital transformation and smart city development.
Dà Nang received top marks in three categories: smart governance, attractiveness to innovative start-ups and green environment. The judges noted that these areas reflected the city's commitment to putting services at the heart of its concerns, while developing the use of digital tools in urban management.
The association hailed the award as recognition of this coastal city's ongoing efforts to build a comprehensive smart city model and improve living standards for its residents.
Over the past decade, Dà Nang has established itself as a national leader in artificial intelligence in public services. The city operates an integrated operations center, massive data analytics platforms and AI systems that monitor traffic, air quality and safety.
It has also deployed virtual assistants to provide information, digital tools suggesting administrative steps and platforms analyzing citizen feedback online.
Local universities, technology parks and start-up incubators have been encouraged to collaborate more closely, forming a growing research network on AI applications related to urban needs.
According to the authorities, this technology has accelerated the delivery of public services, improved incident responsiveness and enhanced early warning capabilities in sectors as diverse as transport and the environment.
Dà Nang is currently drawing up a new strategy for 2026-2030 to consolidate its role as an innovation hub. This plan identifies AI as a key pillar for developing the digital economy and boosting competitiveness.
The plan calls for the creation of new AI laboratories, research and development centers, as well as an experimental regulatory framework to test emerging technologies, and increased support for technology companies and start-ups.
According to city officials, this national distinction will strengthen Dà Nang's position as it seeks closer partnerships, both nationally and internationally, to develop its smart city projects.
The long-term objective, they add, is to make Dà Nang a sustainable and innovative urban center that remains one of Vietnam's most liveable cities.
