The Agence Nationale du Volontariat au Togo (ANVT), in collaboration with the European Union delegation, marked International Volunteer Day on Tuesday.

It is celebrated every year on December 5.

The day was created by the United Nations to recognize and celebrate the important role played by volunteers worldwide.

It aims to encourage and value the work of volunteers, as well as raise awareness of the positive impact they have on communities and society as a whole.

International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the millions of people who devote their time and skills to the service of others, whether in fields such as education, health, humanitarian aid, environmental protection, or other areas of activity.

It also highlights the importance of volunteering as a means of strengthening solidarity and promoting sustainable development.

Each year, the day is marked by various events, activities and initiatives organized by organizations, governments and communities around the world to celebrate and recognize the invaluable contribution of volunteers.

This is a special day to celebrate the commitment of national and international volunteers in Togo," said Omar Ogbangba, Managing Director of ANVT.

Since 2011, almost 67,000 national volunteers have been mobilized to help disadvantaged populations. To this must be added 2,000 internationals (France, Germany, Belgium, USA...).

Volunteers are fully involved in education, health, the environment, sanitation, local management, etc.

The European Union is very active.

We have offered volunteer opportunities in each of the projects financed by the EU in Togo', said Paolo Salvia, head of the political section at the European Union delegation in Lomé.
