Morocco/Tetouan: Multidisciplinary medical caravan for local prison inmates

On Tuesday in Tetouan, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Prisoners organized a multidisciplinary medical caravan for inmates at the local prison.

Organized in partnership with the local prison administration in Tetouan, the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Tetouan, the University Hospital Center (CHU) in Tangier, and civil society players, this initiative is part of the Foundation's interest in the health of prisoners, and in strengthening the provision of health care and social assistance for this category of society.This initiative is part of the Foundation's commitment to the health of prisoners, and to strengthening the health and social care available to this category of society.

The caravan, under the slogan "Strengthening healthcare provision, a fundamental entry point to rehabilitation", benefited over more than 300 inmates, who benefited from around 500 specialized medical services and consultations, as well as free medicines.

Supervised by more than 20 medical and paramedical staff, the caravan provided consultations in 12 specialties, including gynecology-obstetrics, cardiology, endocrinology, urology, gastroenterology and pneumology.

In a statement to MAP, Mohamed El Mkadmi, regional coordinator of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Prisoners in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, stressed that the caravan was part of the Foundation's annual program for the benefit of inmates of the region's prisons.This is in line with HM King Mohammed VI's enlightened vision, which aims to strengthen healthcare provision in prisons, as well as for the benefit of the region's inmate population.

For his part, Hassan Ammari, Director of the local prison in Tétouan, said that the caravan was part of the implementation of the strategic orientations of the Tétouan delegation.of the strategic orientations of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and rehabilitation, aimed at supporting health services in prisons, and enabling inmates to access care services and the necessary health assistance, with a view to humanizing conditions of detention.

He noted that the aim was also to bring medical services closer to inmates, in specific specialties requiring the intervention of doctors from the CHU of Tenerife.The aim is to enable inmates to enjoy their fundamental right to health, in strict compliance with the laws in force.
