La Francophonie scientifique celebrates in the Americas
Every year, during the month of March, the Francophonie takes center stage around the world. A large number of events are organized during this month. The scientific Francophonie in the Americas is also celebrated, with meetings, ceremonies, conferences and more.
Brazil: How to teach French in Brazil in the face of the challenges of digital technology and artificial intelligence?
As part of the Mois de la Francophonie, the AUF Americas took part in the Rencontre professionnelle de l'enseignement du/en français au Brésil, organized on March 14 at the Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho State University in São Paulo.
The event, initiated by the French Embassy in Brazil and its partners, including the Alliance Française and the Fédération Brésilienne des Professeurs de Français, brought together over 200 teachers, researchers and academic leaders, all driven by the same ambition: to redefine teaching practices.
In the amphitheaters of Paulista State University, the exchanges were lively and passionate. What role can AI play in language learning? How can we attract new audiences to French? These were just some of the challenges to which the speakers sought to provide answers, sharing their experiences and visions for the future.
For Isabela Ospital, Project Manager at AUF Amériques, who was present at the opening, this meeting was essential: "Supporting these initiatives means strengthening the scientific Francophonie in Brazil and encouraging new collaborations with local universities. "An essential dynamic at a time when French is seeking to establish itself as a language of opportunity in the region.
Canada: Lire en français - a digital library for the Americas
To celebrate Francophonie Month 2025, AUF-Amériques, in collaboration with the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques, organized a webinar on March 18, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. to introduce the region's French-speaking teachers and students to a collection of over 20,000 works in French, accessible free of charge via the Bibliothèque des Amériques.
The presentation by Aleksandra Grzybowska, coordinator of the Library of the Americas, attracted a great deal of interest, bringing together French-speaking students, teachers, researchers and authors. Numerous questions enriched the exchanges, notably on the best ways to exploit these resources in teaching and learning.
By supporting digital initiatives such as the Library of the Americas, the AUF promotes the dissemination of French-language knowledge, encourages the sharing of knowledge and innovative pedagogical practices, and helps strengthen ties between French-speaking communities in the Americas.
Cuba: Celebrating a new dynamic for the scientific Francophonie
As part of the celebrations for the Mois de la Francophonie, AUF-Amériques Deputy Director Myrline Vanessa Guillaume visited Cuba from March 18 to 20. This mission, carried out at the invitation of the French Embassy, enabled the AUF to be represented at the Salon des études francophones in Havana and to meet its key partners in the country. Canada : The new faces of the Francophonie - a scientific look at its evolution
How is the global Francophonie changing? Who speaks French today, and what are the accompanying challenges? These questions were at the heart of an interactive conference organized by the AUF on March 28 at the Université de Montréal, to mark the end of the Mois de la Francophonie. Mobilizing its three partner observatories in Quebec-Canada, the AUF offered an in-depth reflection on the linguistic, economic and social dynamics that are redrawing the contours of the French-speaking world.
