Guinea/IVᵉ Pan-African conference: Digital transition and educational innovations
The AUF and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation of the Republic of Guinea are organizing the IVᵉ Pan-African Conference on April 28 and 29, 2025 in Conakry around the theme: "Digital Transition and Pedagogical Innovations". For two days, ministers, senior university officials, artificial intelligence experts and international partners will debate priority reforms to modernize African higher education and build a multilingual scientific Africa.
Launched in 2022 in Ziguinchor, the Pan-African Conference is the main political forum created by the AUF to strengthen cooperation between ministerial authorities and higher education institutions on the continent. Following on from Praia (2023) and Banjul (2024), the Conakry edition continues the collective momentum by placing digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) at the heart of university re-foundation strategies. Three objectives structure the discussions:
- Governance and digital infrastructures: encouraging states to invest sustainably in connectivity and adopt integrated public policies.
- Sustainable distance learning models: share experiences of virtual universities to guarantee accessibility and quality.
- Quality assurance and intellectual property: define recognized standards for digital educational resources.
A high-level program
The first day opens with a panel of ministers, moderated by AUF Rector Prof. Slim Khalbous. This will be followed by a panel of high-level representatives and a panel of virtual university presidents to take stock of e-learning in Africa.
The following day, a panel of AI-Education-Research experts will bring together leading academics to examine the impact of AI on the personalization of learning, assessment and scientific production. AUF will then present its Africa Digital Campus project and IFIC platforms dedicated to open and distance learning.
The conclusions of the six panels will feed into the elaboration of a "Declaration of Conakry" and an operational roadmap detailing priorities in digital infrastructuress in digital infrastructure; in developing the skills of teacher-researchers; in sharing content; and in quality and inclusion indicators.
